User Generated Content by Tweens

As you know, consumer generated content has become the basis for all things dot com and it’s not stopping there. Authors are writing multiple endings for readers, games come with rules that players can dictate how to enforce and now TV shows for the tween set are granting creative control to the very consumer they are hoping to attract. New Nickelodeon comedy series iCarly is doing just that. Starring Drake and Josh alum Miranda Cosgrove as Carly, the show follows the title character as she produces her home-based web show. What makes this unique is that Carly gives special assignments to viewers, directing them to the show’s website to upload their web-based content, which may then be used in upcoming episodes. The hope is that tweens will love the interactive component of the show and that moms will love the fact that their tween is encouraged to exercise their creative muscle.
